DEVELOPMENTAL CONCEPT

Our team program is designed to assemble groups of individuals of the same ages and skill level in order to foster an atmosphere of intense learning and development. By providing skill development as well as having our own teams all under one roof, we give players the ability to utilize on the court, what they have learned in their skill development sessions. Learning a new skill and figuring out how to utilize it in a game scenario is a process that takes time and involves the players learning from their mistakes. Our coaches not only understand that but embrace it as a part of the growth process. For Eurostep winning is not the end goal, but a byproduct of hard work and player growth.

The mission is to help each athlete achieve their maximum potential, and therefore the expectation is that every member of the club (coaching staff, players, managers, etc.) all act accordingly. Each member of the roster will be asked to sign a copy of the code of conduct before becoming a part of Eurostep.

This is a highly competitive team and therefore minutes are not guaranteed. Each player will earn their minutes based on their performance in practices and games.  With that being said, each player will play in every game, but it is up to the coach to determine how many minutes each player gets.

OBJECTIVES

There are four main objectives for the program, and none of them include the word winning. At Eurostep, we believe that winning is a by-product of practice and preparation and therefore will occur if the below objectives are met.

  1. Support and Growth - Create a positive atmosphere for all parents, coaches, and athletes. There will be ZERO tolerance for any disruptive or negative behavior from anyone affiliated with the program.

  2. Continual Improvement - Create an atmosphere of intense growth and development. Every player should walk out of each training session better than they were before it started.

  3. Build Fundamentally sound players - Complete basketball players are able to shoot, pass, dribble, and play defense, no matter what position they are, or where they are on the floor. By accomplishing this, all of the players in the program will be able to succeed and shine as players.

  4. Post-Secondary Basketball – The ultimate goal is to help build great basketball players who will be able to attain scholarships at either Canadian or American universities/colleges.

Team PhilosophY

A unified and unilateral team philosophy will be applied to all ages of the program. This basketball ideology will be created and set out by the founder and owner of Eurostep, Boris Bakovic. Every Eurostep coach will be extensively trained based on this ideology. The club as a whole will have a certain style of play, and if a team has a coaching change between seasons, the athletes will not be affected as the system will be the same. For example, every age group will focus on the following:

  • High-tempo basketball that focuses on transition offense.

  • Pass-and-cut offense that utilizes a lot of back door cuts. Over dribbling and isolation basketball will not be allowed or tolerated.

  • The majority of the defense will be played in man to man (100% man to man at the younger age groups).

Older age groups will have more tactically elaborate plays and defensive schemes, which will only be applied once the players have a firm understanding of the basic concepts of basketball. Screen and roll will only be utilized once the kids have reached U13.

Aside from having a unified tactical approach, Eurostep will take it one step further. The organization will have an approved database of team drills that has been carefully constructed by the President of Operations. This will ensure that each minute spent at practice is constructive and helps our athletes get better.

Coaching Staff & Organizational structure

Eurostep will be operated as a professional basketball club and will set high expectations for both the players as well as the coaching staff. In order to achieve this level of commitment and dedication, each of the coaches will be paid by Eurostep. By doing this, the coaches will be held accountable to hold up the objectives and developmental philosophy that has been set out by the club.

    • Coaches will be encouraged to add their own drills to the database, pending approval from the President of Operations.

  • Provide video feedback after games & tournaments.

  • Create an atmosphere where athletes feel welcome and are excited to be a part of.
