EUROSTEP GIRLS LEAGUE (EGL)

INTRO

The mission of the EGL is to provide the necessary infrastructure that allows for the delivery of a high-quality girl’s basketball league. Our focus will be to provide consistency, reliability, and professionalism in all aspects of organization and communication with the teams and clubs in our league. With the growth in popularity of girls’ basketball in the GTA and the province, it is extremely important to provide each athlete and team with the opportunity to play in a league that can provide the proper atmosphere and support for each team to successfully compete.

The objective is to make the registration, scheduling, and communication as seamless as possible for all of the coaches and team managers so they can focus on what matters, helping the girls reach their full potential in the game of basketball.

VENUES

The following 4 schools (plus a backup facility) would be used for the league. Having consistent high-quality venues makes planning easier for both coaches and parents. All of the games would be held in the Etobicoke area and close to the 427 highway. The gyms are also minutes apart, meaning that travel between games would be limited if at all necessary. All of the locations feature full-size high school gyms with hardwood flooring and a lot of room for spectators.

LEAGUE STRUCTURE

  • Each division would have six (6) teams and play the other five (5) teams in the division twice during the regular season. The top 4 teams in each division advance to the play-offs and play a guaranteed two games. Therefore each team would get between 10 and 12 games.

  • We are looking to host U10 - U16 age groups for our first year of operation. There would be two divisions for each age group (A/AA and a AAA division).

  • For the first year, we are going to cap the league to a maximum of 60 teams in the league across the six (6) age groups. The goal for the first year is to make sure that we can offer a superior experience for the athletes, coaches, and parents.

  • The fee for the league would be $2,800 per team. Each team would play ten (10) regular season games plus potentially two playoff games.

  • All of the games would take place on Sundays between 9AM and 7:30PM. The schedule would be created to avoid any conflicts with the OBA/OBL competitive schedule.

  • The league would start in mid-October and run until the end of April to coincide with the OBA/OBL schedule.

  • All league games will be using OBA rules and regulations.

  • TABO referees will be used for all games. Our goal is to have the event sanctioned by the OBA (pending approval) by the OBA.

  • Fall back to back-to-half rule would apply to any game where one team has a 25-point lead.

  • Each game is guaranteed to have two scorekeepers to ensure things run smoothly and professionally. There would also be NO ENTRY FEE for spectators.

  • The schedule and results will be available on the EGL app

  • Player of the game recognition.

  • All-star team and MVP awards are given out at the end of the year for each division.
