ABOUT US

FOUNDER & OWNER

Boris Bakovic experienced his first season of organized basketball in grade 9 playing for his school team. This was also the first year he played in the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) league. Since then, he rose through the ranks to be selected for the Ontario provincial team in both grades 10 and 11. After finishing high school, Boris joined the Ryerson Rams and played there for 4 years. For his final year of CIS basketball, he decided to go out west and join the University of Calgary Dinos and it was during his time at Calgary that he broke the record for the all-time leading scorer in Canadian university basketball history, with over 2,300 points. While playing varsity basketball at Ryerson and UofC, Boris was also selected to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships in 2007 as well as the two different World University Games. His national team highlight was winning a silver medal in the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China. After completing his varsity career Boris played professionally in France & Bulgaria before a series of injuries influenced his decision to retire.

Boris was only able to understand and appreciate the life lessons basketball has taught him once he was done playing professional basketball. Hard work, determination, focus, and perseverance are only some of the attributes that Boris learned while competing at various levels during his career. These are the same attributes that are the driving force behind creating and developing Eurostep into one of the premier training programs in the country.

COMPANY HISTORY

In May of 2015 Boris Bakovic started Eurostep by hosting the club’s first small group session with 6 athletes. Since its inception, the program has expanded to offer a variety of training options that suit a spectrum of training requirements. In 2022 Eurostep built its own training facility at 55 Horner Ave. in Etobicoke.

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

Our main objective is to help young athletes master the fundamental skills of basketball.

Although it seems to be a straightforward and simple goal, it is anything but. Eurostep has built a training infrastructure that allows each athlete to get the specific training they need based on their age and ability level, no matter which coach is in charge of the training session. At the heart of our training infrastructure is our Developmental Creed (DC). This creed sets a training benchmark and outlines all of the skills a player needs to possess between the ages of 10 to 18. This creed was developed leveraging Boris’s 10+ years of elite-level basketball, domestic and international. It is this knowledge that we wish to transfer and pass down to the new generation of athletes.

Each of our coaches knows and understands Eurostep’s DC, therefore providing our athletes with high-quality training on a consistent basis. It is this consistency that gives our athletes the ability to continually grow and progress every time they are on the court with us. In order for Eurostep to consider an athlete to be fundamentally sound at basketball, they need to possess the following 4 traits:

ELITE LEVEL BASKETBALL & UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Although Eurostep offers programs for youth of every ability level, our focus is on helping athletes attain basketball scholarships to both Canadian & American universities. Leveraging our coach’s university and pro basketball experience, we can help guide athletes through the process of development as well as exposure. In order to achieve this, Eurostep has its own OBA and CYBL teams to make sure that we provide the players with the environment they need in order to succeed. Our teams compete in domestic as well as international events in order to ensure that they are competing against the highest level of competition possible and being exposed to university coaches.

COACHING STAFF

At Eurostep we understand that the success of our athletes hinges on our coaching staff. That is why all of the coaches at Eurostep Basketball have been personally trained by Boris Bakovic to ensure each coach fully understands the values and developmental principals that Boris has outlined for the organization.
